Therapeutic Chair Yoga / Chair-based Stretch and Tone

This class is perfect for individuals with movements limitations that impairs them getting up and down from the floor. Based on the Structural Yoga Therapy Joint Freeing Series®, classes begin by quieting the mind through focus on the breath, progress to simple, single-joint movements to promote and enhance normal range of motion movements as well as strength and flexibility of the muscles, and ends with a guided meditation. Depending on the class participants, there may be a few standing poses using a chair or the wall for balance. Over time, the class will be tailored to the ongoing student needs. This class is particularly well suited for seniors as well as individuals with MS, Fibromyalgia, CFS or injuries. Current clients include Beaumont Skilled Nursing at Northbridge, and Whitney Place Assisted Living at Northbridge.

Therapeutic Yoga for Adults with Alzheimer’s

This class has been developed through ongoing work with Alzheimer’s adults. Similar to the Therapeutic Chair Yoga class described above, it is based on the Structural Yoga Therapy Joint Freeing Series®, classes begin by quieting the mind through focus on the breath, progress to simple, single-joint movements to promote and enhance normal range of motion movements as well as strength and flexibility of the muscles, and ends with a guided meditation. The emphasis is on relaxation and the alleviation of anxiety. The flow of movements is designed to be soothing to the nervous system. Current client is Whitney Place Adult Day Health at Natick.

Moderate Hatha/Flow

Inspired by Forrest Yoga and Power Vinyasa Yoga, this class blends holding in poses to allow deep release of tension, habituated muscle holding and energy blocks with unique sun-salutation-based vinyasa flows in the standing poses. The methodology for this style is best described as working from the core through the rest of the body, keeping mental focus in the body and maximizing body-awareness and developing the mind-body relationship.

Power Vinyasa Flow

Inspired by Ashtanga yoga and Power Vinyasa yoga, this style of yoga is vigorous, synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures to produce intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. Yoga classes for this yoga style can be geared for beginners, more advanced students or for all-levels.
